Those were designed to tuck in the hjc helmets almost seamlessly and look pretty protected. Worried now about all the rain talk that these may also crap out but cant find any info or reviews of this particular model

True, I need to make this more clear. Their is a bridging function between Cardo and Sena, but they are not all technically connected over Mesh which does present some issues (the bridged units need to stay within Bluetooth range). Thank you for the correction!

I think getting the Packtalk Pro and putting it inside the Neotec II is about the best you can do as far as soundproofing. However, in my experience 90% of this question comes down to very unique elements: the shape of your head and fit of the helmet, where the speakers sit in relation to your ears, and the kind of notes your pipe is giving out. If it is just too loud, a quick hack I’ve found is to use an inexpensive set of wired in-ear headphones. It’s a bit annoying to put these in before you slip your helmet on, but the sound is 10x better just because the speakers are sealed in to your ears, instead of sitting next to them inside the helmet shell. I hope that’s helpful!

I am thinking of getting the Cardo Packtalk PRO. I have a Shoei Neotec II modular helmet. In your opinion, do you think I will be able to hear music clearly over the loud engine noise?

Wow, I’m sorry to hear that. Are you connecting to other Freecom devices? The Freecom is an older line and only has Bluetooth, which might be the source of the issue; I’ve had a flawless experience with the newer Mesh units from Cardo.

I don’t like that Sena arent rated waterproof, and can’t attest that they are any better. I think it’s time for a 3rd big company to join the party and raise the bar on quality, accessibility and universality.

Sorry to hear it’s bricked! The Shoei Neotec II should fit any communicator, but the fit in your helmet won’t be as seamless as the Sena SRL2. You’ll have to take out the SRL2 microphone and speakers to replace with those that come with your new Cardo. I’d recommend getting the Cardo PackTalk Edge (mentioned in this article) to replace your SRL2. It has a great microphone, 40mm speakers (much nicer than the SRL2), and it will connect to any Cardo or Sena headset. I’ve used these on group rides and love them – connect to the group seamlessly, even after turning on and off.

Is it possible to replace the Sena unit with a Cardo – which is what all my riding buddies have?

Thank you for your comment, Aaron. I will take a deeper look in to them. I’ve heard mixed things about their audio quality, but that’s all that’s coming to mind right now.

The Cardo unit has to initiate pairing with Sena, since it has universal intercom. So yes exactly, pair the Cardo to the Senas. And you’re better off connecting through Bluetooth (not Mesh) between Cardo and Sena – newer Sena models won’t connect to Cardo over Mesh.
